ABOUT BEST PLACE INNS

London Hostels

Best Place Inns are a unique group of three London Youth Hostels set above Traditional English Pubs, providing backpackers with a different sort of London hostel experience. Historically, many traditional British Pubs or Inns would have had cheap rooms to let for weary travellers and Best Place Inns have set about restoring pubs and re-creating the traditional Inn experience for a new generation – London Backpackers!

Our three central London locations are The Green Man Hostel Paddington, The Steam Engine Hostel Waterloo and The White Ferry House Hostel Victoria. Each Hostel and Pub has a different look and feel, reflecting the unique character of its London neighbourhood, so take a look through our site and decide which fits you best. You can Book Online at any time by clicking the Book Now buttons!

Best Place Inns has stayed true to the local character of each Pub, both in clientele and décor, offering British Real Ales on tap, as well as a fine selection of lagers, wines and spirits. Each Pub hosts regular events including live music, karaoke and all major sport fixtures.

Best Place Inns Limited was set up by company director Ben Stackhouse in early 2007, when he took over the lease of The Green Man Pub in Paddington. His idea of providing cheap youth hostel accommodation to complement underperforming local pubs has proven successful, following the two subsequent openings of The Steam Engine Hostel Waterloo in 2008 and The White Ferry House Hostel Victoria in 2009. The Best Place Inns team are young and energetic, often visitors to London themselves, but fully committed to providing Pubs and Hostels which are a pleasure to run, work in, drink in and stay at.

Everyone's welcome who welcomes everyone!

What is your favourite tourist attraction? Why?
It has got to be the Houses of Parliament. The building itself is beautiful , It has history dating back nearly 1000 years and there are many interesting and downright weird facts about this place - It's the only tourist attraction in the world where it is illegal to die, haha!

What would be your ideal day in London?
I'd start with an early morning cycle along the river to eat breakfast in Borough market (the best food market in Britain) before parking up and taking a stroll along the Southbank. I'd watch the skaterboys showing off and have a look to see if there are any new exhibitions at the Tate Modern (there's a great cafe right at the top with super views). Then I think I'd take a boat trip down to Greenwich to do some people watching at the Old Royal Naval College and check out the Painted Hall (free and fantastic). Then it would be time for an impromptu picnic in Greenwich Park, and maybe a quick football game. Then climb the hill to the Royal Observatory, find a nice spot and sit and watch the sun set over London with a few beers!

Please share some of the secrets of London with us?
If you want a budget panoramic view of London then I'd recommend the high level walkways at the top of Tower Bridge. These are part of The Tower Bridge Experience, so not only do you get a great view but you can also see inside the most famous bridge in the world for the bargain price of £7.00 (or £5.00 concession). For people wanting to find out about the really obscure, special interest stuff happening in town check out one of my favourite London blogs, ianvisits.co.uk. It lists dozens of weird events happening each week, many of which are free.

What advice would you give to someone visiting London for the first time?
Well my first piece of advice would obviously be to do at least one Spoke 'n Motion bike tour! They’re an incredibly good way to orientate yourself and see loads of interesting things in a short space of time. You'll hear lots of great stories, get some gentle exercise and even get a complimentary drink at the end. We also guarantee that if you're not satisfied with your tour for any reason we'll give you your money back! There are obviously lots of 'must sees' in London, but the great thing about this city is there is so much to experience that you will always run out of time or money before you run out of fun things to do. Check out TimeOut.co.uk to help plan your trip .

What is your favourite tourist attraction? Why?

I love the buzz of Covent Garden. Ever since going there as a kid i've always loved revisiting. It has everything you need. Museums, shops, markets, great food and pubs too! Perfect any time of day.

What would be your ideal day in London?

My ideal day would actually be pretty simple. A picnic in Hyde Park with friends on a warm and sunny day followed by a show at the West End.

Please share some of the secrets of London with us?

Not sure I have any secrets. Sorry!

What advice would you give someone visiting London for the first time?

A lot of people think you need to get the underground train (the tube) everywhere. In greater London there are hundreds of great tourist attractions all within walking distance. My advice is use your legs! You'll get a better sense of the layout of London and get some good exercise in the process!
